Managing the Linux Group which maintains the Linux and VMware infrastructures. Also managing the Web Infrastructure Team which also includes SharePoint. This is an exciting role, working with hardware, operating systems, and middleware.

Supervising the Linux Group that maintains all the Linux servers and VMware infrastructure. I have the primary focus of efficiency, automation, and delivering results to all our internal and external customers.

I am within the Infrastructure group, we manage 100+ Linux servers mostly SLES with some RHEL. These servers run a variety of things from Oracle and related applications, Internet & Mobile banking solutions, and other proprietary software. The Linux group also manages the VMware infrastructure, from the physical deployment of hosts to creating and supporting the guests for all the groups in the company. All of this with the focus of security, to ensure a safe and reliable experience.

I work with 300 Redhat Linux servers running various things such as lamp, vsftpd, ctdb, samba, nfs, and many of those run GPFS providing petabyte's of disk on a san. I also work with AIX running on IBM's, with roles like mail, oracle databases, print and application queues, and we are the back bone to our backup system to ADIC's & VTL's. It has been a lot of fun learning these many technologies and learning the architecture of the fiber, ISL, and clariion or symmetrics disk infrastructure.

As an associate, I performed all the Redhat/CentOS & other Linux system builds. I would also deploy the servers, install the software and configure them with the departments the servers were associated with. I also learned bash & perl scripting buy making changes and updates to them. I also wrote many scripts myself once I was proficient. I did the day to day admin request that required me to work with our AIX, Linux, and Oracle systems. I also embraced learning and making my speciality, the GPFS cluster technology from IBM. I also helped support the other admins with our IBM power 7 servers and our storages units. As part of the day to day, I worked with our backup systems and adics, triaging any issues with a specific back up.

Joined ESPN as a 3rd shift Data Center Analyst. My role on third shift ranged from answering calls for some technical support, monitoring the network, and triaging any issues with database refreshes and backups that ran at night. The technical support calls varied from email, VPN, application, PDA, and network related access like RSA. While monitoring the different aspects of the network, we were the front line in support and working with the oncall admin for that particular service. I also worked closely with the Unix group with handling backup issues, troubleshooting some database refresh issues, and helped build Linux systems over night for different projects they took on.

Managed a call center which supported approximately 30,000 customers. Our customer base was diverse from dialup & dsl users, web hosting, and colocation or supported infrastructures on customer's sites. At the same time I performed the role of Mail Administrator. When I took over the mail farm consisted of 5 servers performing all functions of mail. After reorganizing mail flow, relays were deployed for spooling, pop servers were split from smtp servers, and we implemented our own in house spam and virus scanning system. Performance and reliability increased which allowed me more time to be the manager of the call center.

Temp work doing different things like migrating workstations and deploying new networks. Was an excellent way to get diverse experience and to start a new career.
