What makes my work unique is my blending of evidence and mindfulness into financial planning. My science background has me always focused on what actually works (i.e. does it have evidence?). This is particularly important in financial planning as many people and institutions are promoting investments and other services that benefit them more than they benefit you. There is solid research (including the work of Nobel Prize-winning economists) about what works in investing and finances, but it is hard to find amongst all the noise and self-promotion.Mindfulness grounds me in what is important in life and helps me bring empathy and compassion to financial planning. I want to understand what you most deeply want out of life. What are your dreams...and your fears? Do you fear running out of money? Do you fear making major mistakes with your investments or in deciding when to take Social Security? Do you want to understand when you can retire or how much you can spend in retirement? Would you love to satisfy your curiosity and joy by savoring a cappuccino in Rome? Or do you want to experience the beauty of Glacier and Denali? Life is a journey with twists and turns, unexpected challenges, and moments of grace and beauty. Sometimes (often?) it doesn't go as planned and plans need to be adjusted. This is when an empathic and thoughtful partner who understands you, your values, and your priorities is most important.Money should be a facilitator of what you most want out of life, not the end goal. While I love finding ways to save clients tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxes, more importantly, I love when clients feel more secure, calm, and confident.
