Twelve years academic teaching and research:Dr. Colby was active in the areas of biochemistry, genetics, virology and cell biology with emphasis on their application to cancer and infectious diseases. His research programs were supported by NIH and the American Cancer Society. Dr. Colby also received a Research Career Development Award from NIH NIAID.Twenty-five years in the biotechnology industry.In 1979, Dr. Colby initiated and then managed the recombinant interferon program at Cetus Corp. In 1983, he joined Triton Biosciences, Inc. as the founding scientist. As the Senior Director of Technology Development, he was the lead technical person on the senior management team responsible for developing human recombinant interferon-beta (Betaseron*) for multiple sclerosis and Fludara* for chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Following the sale of Triton Biosciences in 1990, Dr. Colby developed an international private consulting practice. From 1992-1995 he served as Vice President, Research & Development at Metabolex, Inc., a biotechnology company focused on diabetes and between 1998-2001 he was Vice President, Business Development and Chief Operating Officer of Neugenesis, Corporation. During 2000-2002 Dr. Colby was a Senior Industry Advisor and Special Partner with TVM Techno Venture Partners, an international venture capital firm with offices in Munich, Boston and San Francisco. Currently, Dr. Colby serves as a Director of the Northern California Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and on the Scientific and Business Advisory Board of Fast Forward, a research arm of NMSS.Specialties: Discovery and preclinical research, product development and production.Effective program and budget management; cross disciplinary team building.Product oriented technology identification, assessment, and acquisition.Management of intellectual property.
