NORTHROP GRUMMAN CORPORATION PROJECT: Control of laminar to turbulence of transition by actively controlling Tollmien-Schlichting (T-S) waves * Designed and conducted wind tunnel experiments, and developed a method “Phase-Locking” to detect T-S waves.* Computational and experimental methods have been applied to cancel T-S waves and delay turbulence on a flat plate. * Designed an experimental setup to delay turbulence transition on a NACA 0009 airfoil.** Combined experimental and computational methods to increase efficiency of project teams.** Developed UDF’s (User Defined Functions) to implement dynamic mesh (C coding) for active flow control actuators that are used to delay turbulence transition, cancel flow separation, increase mixing, and reduce drag. ** Supervision and management of three R&D project team involving M.Sc. and Ph.D. students. ** Organizing and planning of wind tunnel facility; and educate Ph.D. students on experimental methods and testing.

NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION (NSF) PROJECT: Instabilities in Finite Length Unsteady Shallow Flows* Designed and constructed experimental setups for simulating river flow in order to quantitatively/qualitatively visualize the unsteady three-dimensional flow structure due to shear layer instabilities along the opening of a cavity.* Extensively studied the detailed flow structure at various instability stages, i.e., coupled and uncoupled oscillations.* Formulated the mass exchange between the cavity and river by combining the experimental and computational results.* Developed UDF’s (User Defined Functions) and subroutines to implement dynamic mesh.Computationally determined power generation due to the coupled oscillations by using Comsol Multiphysics. ** Hands-on experience in designing, installing, and conducting two- and three- dimensional Digital Particle Image Velocimetry, data acquisition, signal processing, and motion control.** Direct supervision and assistance to M.Sc. and Ph.D. students with regard to their academic studies.** Facilitate teaching instructions on graduate and undergraduate courses, involving classroom and laboratory interaction.
