Dr. Burak Mergen is an ophthalmologist whose work is focused mainly on corneal diseases and their treatments. He graduated from the English Department of the Cerrahpasa Medical School at Istanbul University, Turkey, in 2015. During his medical school years, he visited the University of Minnesota and Harvard University as a research scholar, working on stem cells under the supervision of Dr. George Q. Daley and Dr. Michael Kyba. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the same institution (Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty) in 2020.During his residency, he worked as a clinical research scholar at the Ophthalmology Department of the Lahey Hospital (an affiliated hospital of Tufts University) in Boston, MA, USA. Following his achievements during residency, he was awarded the Developing Country Eye Researcher Fellowship (DCERF) by ARVO in 2020. Dr. Mergen has published more than 30 articles in major ophthalmology journals, including results from two randomized controlled trials, and has presented his research at numerous national and international conferences.From 2020 to 2022, he worked at Basaksehir Cam and Sakura City Hospital, a leading healthcare institution in Istanbul, Turkey. Since 2022, Dr. Mergen has been working in Germany, focusing on cataract and refractive surgery at Care Vision in Freiburg and Medizentrum Eckert in Karlsruhe.Dr. Mergen continues to contribute to the field through participation in national and international clinical studies. He is a member of the Young Ophthalmologists of the Turkish Ophthalmological Association and an alumnus of the Foundations of Clinical Research Program (2021-2022) at Harvard University.
