I'm grateful to have enjoyed several different career experiences that have brought important interdisciplinary learning and self-discovery. This includes 20+ years of undergraduate and graduate school teaching (history, religion, philosophy) across five universities, coaching in NCAA Division I wrestling, (Big 10, Pac 12 and Ivy League), and 25 years of ministry and non-profit leadership in Rhode Island, California and Wisconsin. I've also had the extraordinary challenge of serving as a plaintiff and key witness in two nationally publicized civil rights lawsuits in which college students successfully contested university civil rights violations in Federal court (Brown Univ. & UC Davis). The UC Davis case contested the administration's removal of one of the first official Division I women's wrestling programs in NCAA history, initiated in 1995 and eliminated in 2001. Through these experiences I learned lessons about persistence, truth, and conflict resolution. As an historian I appreciate the complexities of ethics in the context of democracy and diversity. I value effective communication and team-oriented problem solving, including an informed understanding of institutional dynamics, team building, motivating others, and the importance of impactful dissent. I am a certified mediator (Alternative Conflict Resolutions) and certified in Transitional Ministry which recognizes life-cycle and family system dynamics in faith communities. I am a capable life coach and spiritual director/mentor who values life-long learning, innovation, resiliency, healing, and humor.
