About Alex Burgin

I love helping small businesses achieve their dreams! I have worked at or with small businesses my entire career and I am grateful to lead one of the original online payment companies, Authorize.Net. In this position I oversee a platform that supports 430K+ active merchants, thousands of partners, 1B+ transactions and nearly $150B in annual payment volume. Authorize.Net is a wholly owned subsidiary of Visa.My career has taken me around the world - literally! A key acceleration point in my career was accepting an ex-pat assignment in the UK to launch Authorize.net globally. This two year assignment was a highlight professionally and personally as we accomplished outstanding results while embedding ourselves into a wonderful new culture and set of friends. I drive results and overachieve against goals by leading with transparency and empathy. I firmly believe in looking for the best in others and employ a “doer” mindset. In 2020, I led Authorize.Net to it’s best year ever which included significant revenue growth and positive year over year trends in all metrics. I enjoy talking with small businesses and finding opportunities to help them grow and expand. I use those insights to share my thoughts on the small business community to a variety of internal and external audiences. These have included speaking alongside the acting Administrator of the SBA and sharing my thoughts in a variety of media pieces. I currently reside in Utah and enjoy the many wonderful outdoor activities it provides.

    In early 2011 I submitted a proposal to create a new sales channel focused specifically on our indirect referral partners. This proposal was accepted and I took ownership of the Affiliate sales channel and assembled a highly focused team to increase merchant referrals and revenue. With this role I managed a cross-functional team consisting of sales, account managers and sales engineers. Our focus was dedicated to collaborating with our technology partners and providing them with the tools and resources they needed to be successful in selling payments. A key priority in growing this indirect channel was establishing close relationships with our strategic partners such as shopping cart providers and e-commerce platforms. These relationships became the foundation for our success. We consistently exceeded 20% revenue growth year over year by increasing partner engagement and creating relevant sales tools and solutions. I worked successfully with key internal groups such as product management, marketing, finance and customer support to design and launch internal tools and new applications.
