--From Architect to Facility Manager--So, I used to be an Architect but now I'm the K-12 Facility and Operations leader for Derby Public Schools. After designing a church that looked like Noah's Ark and loads of schools for over 26 years, I decided to bring my unique background to Operations. As an Architect, I was like a conductor, making sure everything came together beautifully. And that's exactly what I do in facility management, using my working knowledge of building systems to bring the team together for success.--Lover of Productivity--I'm a bit of a productivity nerd, always looking for ways to hack my days and projects. I swear by "in-box zero", strong digital note-taking, and building out systems to keep myself organized. This year, I've made a commitment to read at least 10 pages of a professional or self-help non-fiction book every day. And let me tell you, it's made a huge difference in my personal and professional growth! My top recommendation? The Five Levels of Leadership by John C. Maxwell. It's basically an instruction manual for leadership.--Curiosity is Key--I'm crazy curious about all sorts of things, with some of the top being: facility management, podcasting, recumbent bikes, rucking, lifting, technology, cleaning system, business, ham radio, 3d printing and leadership- at least right now. I just love learning new stuff! That's actually why I started my podcast, School Facilities and Operations. It gives me a chance to chat with other professionals and soak up all their knowledge.--Driven by Purpose--For me, there's nothing more important than delivering high-performance educational spaces for our staff and students. These spaces directly impact their ability to learn and teach.
