About Burton Thornton

My experiences at First Command started on the QA team as a QA analyst. I was involved in understanding the requirements/acceptance criteria and translating those into test cases. In this capacity I was able to communicate with the business owners, the business analysts, and the developers. I managed to amass tons of knowledge about our business processes and platforms including but not limited to Microsoft CRM, Data Governance, Data Warehousing, Enterprise Reporting, and Compliance. I was excited to be part of the initial pilot Agile team here at First Command working on the Data Vault. When the QA team got distributed to the Agile Trains I was involved in automating UI tests using the Selenium automation framework in C#. As the QA team migrated into new roles I became a C# developer and was thrilled to work on our implementation of Salesforce in both a Salesforce Admin and C# developer perspective. After that I was asked to become a Development Manager and accepted the challenge. It was been very rewarding and challenging and I have been involved in the migration of our Compensation and Recognition platform from SAP to CaptivateIQ. In addition I have worked closely with the RPA team, the Infrastructure team, and the Information Security team.My previous job, includes many different experiences at the Spirent Fort Worth office. I was anassociate engineer where I not only tested our software, but I also wrote the test plans used to test ourproducts. In this role I was also required to not only accurately communicate the defects in thesoftware, but to also find the cause of the defect. Although not my main job responsibility I alsoundertook some development work. In addition, I also worked with and helped direct a multi-nationalteam to complete the testing in a timely and detailed manner.
