I helped Quantivo achieve a uniform documentation look and feel via a documentation strategy, which lead to trainings & templates I scoped/developed in FrameMaker8. This, along with delivering a simultaneous RoboHelp8 release of their online Wiki, enabled them to accomplish a successful VC Funding Round-1. Quantivo required a tech-savvy writer who possessed the understanding of an RDBMS developer in order to show the greater benefits of Analytics, to work with no ramp-up time and begin to deliver on requirements from the first week. I produced and delivered a Strategic Documentation Methodology that conveyed the different mode of thinking that these tools require for their effective use. The Documentation & Templates were developed in FM8 utilizing code/changing product specs which required me to maintain live updates from a Subversion repository. I released the new training docs simultaneously with the online/help Wiki.

Successfully delivered 3 independent projects for different clients at Cisco: Developed and published technical manuals for (1) Cisco desktop switches at DSBU (5 products.) (2) Cisco wireless switches at WNBU, (for Aironet RNA acquisition that became Cisco CNA v 3.0,) and (3) won an opportunity to solve a problem that was previously unidentified: Innovated an automated Authoring System for multiple Cisco platforms using single-sourced documentation (from FrameMaker) to generate numerous specialized HTML outputs per platform using a FrameMaker plug-in called Mif2Go (for WNBU.)

Technical Communications Consulting from 03/04 to 05/05:- Wrote a 40-page whitepaper extolling the Financial ROI for Medium-to-Large installations of the SunRay Ultra Thin Client. This was done in FrameMaker 7.2, on Windows XP, and is still on the Oracle documentation website- Revised & updated Technical API manual for a Philips product, TCS v4.5. Project was done in FrameMaker 7.2 on Win XP. This project included Scanning & OCR of legacy docs and incorporating the data via ETL tools- Developed 240 page ‘User Management Guide’ for release with Mac OSX 10.4 Tiger Server. Wrote entire chapter on Samba (SMB) and ActiveDirectory integration of Mac OSX and Windows. Simultaneously released ‘Quicktime Streaming Server Guide’ with server setup instructions. Followed Apple internal bug-tracking tool [Radar] to follow required doc updates. Both projects were done in FrameMaker 7.1 on Mac OSX, for Apple Product Development- Developed coursework, teaching instructions, exams, & results for Mac OSX 10.3.4 introductory courses SAS I & II. Single-Sourced in FrameMaker 7.1 on Mac OSX with internal Apple tools, for Apple Technical Training

Group: Apple Product Development.Technical Writer / Producer of Tiger Server and QTSS Enterprise Release DocsDirectly Responsible Individual (DRI) for Mac OSX 10.4 Tiger Server primary guide, which finally brought BSD (& thus, Apple's flagship OS,) into the Corporate arena with SMB functionality. Liaison and Enterprise Documentation Release expertise tested to the limit, as only Apple can.Developed and Published the User Management Administration Guide (240 page behemoth affectionately nicknamed "The Beast of Cupertino",) for Mac OSX Server 10.4 Tiger. The significance of this version was that 10.4 Tiger was the first iteration of Mac OSX where new functionality enabled seamless coexistence with Active Directory services, and required a ‘Windows Server’ understanding. Simultaneously Developed and Published the QTSS (QuickTime Streaming Server) Manual for Mac OSX 10.4 Tiger release.

Group: Apple Technical Training.Developed Apple Certified training courses, instructional materials, testing materials and test answers for Apple Technical Training Department.This required keeping up with Apple's internal bug-tracking mechanism, RADAR, and liaising with SME's and different groups to keep abreast of which of the enhancements were making it into the next release, (Gold Master, or combined package with concurrent releases included, tested, and determined to be working seamlessly,) and collecting the appropriate level of information about these releases. It also required familiarity with the build-management system, keeping a current copy of the latest-build on my system, and creating local compiled versions to be informed of how developments are looking at this time. Total re-visit to my Software Development days, and a refreshing look into the inner workings of NeXT, which had now become the incremental OS Dev methodology of Apple itself.

Developed and implemented lesson plans, worked with disadvantaged and special needs students, and inculcated a love of Science & Math in 9th through 12th graders, in gender-segregated classes.Innovated a few methods to develop scientific interest in kids from this all-African-American disadvantaged community. I engaged my students with fun examples like the 9th Graders measured distances across yards (from within class,) with just a string, a compass and a common ruler. Kids loved "field trips" for Math class, and I had a carrot to use for discipline. My 10th grade class was doing Chemistry, balancing chemical equations, as a live example of Algebra.The biggest hit was "Momentum Dynamics", which I initially created as a motivator to get my 12th graders to learn Physics, which the boys side was initially refusing to consider. I had the kids measure and cut a 12 foot-length PVC pipe, to create a Scimitar-fencing game with Rules: "score on the outside of the thighs, between the pelvis & the knee. Touch anywhere else & you lose, and if you come close to the head, you're never playing again." This is so because PVC bends at 6' length, so we had to anticipate where our "sword" would be, while the opponents' sword was arcing into position based on their hand motion. This game got so popular that all grades insisted on playing it (the 9th grade girls was the noisiest,) and I was able to use it as an in-demand carrot to get them to do assignments they otherwise were disregarding.Tutored students to great improvements, both in after-school tutoring sessions as well as on a group or one-on-one basis. Demonstrated personal budgeting applications, the importance and relevance of math and science in our world, and how physics is exciting beyond words! Program Manager Y2K Certification Project - Fannie Mae (FNMA), Washington, DC: successfully developed and completed "End User Computing" project and received acclaim.Project Lead Y2K Certification - The MYTA Corporation . Developed Hardware, Software, BIOS and OS test methodology to update all MYTA systems.Y2K Subject Matter Expert (SME) - MCI-Local Operations, MCIWorldCom, Chantilly, VA. Developed Y2K Certification methodology.

Took over and successfully completed the delayed "Y2K End User Computing" program, resulting in Zero fail rate for 540+ non-mainframe based applications which were in use all across Fannie Mae. These were apps in every conceivable database and application environment which did not reside on the mainframe servers, meaning that they did not get included in the internal IT Audit in preparation for Y2K remediation. I made the case for, and received one resource to manage, completing within 8 months a project that was initially slated for 14 months, with a team of resources that never materialized. Nonetheless, my wonderfully supportive superiors (Linda Eatman and Rich Valus primary among them) remain imprinted in my memory, because they are aware of my accomplishment in this effort, and that is a greater accolade than any I could ask for.

Globe trotting work utilized a refined consulting methodology which I implemented on NovaManage, a predecessor to Documentum and Hummingbird, far ahead of its time. This folder-style EDMS presented a built-in, rules-based Workflow Management System which enabled me to reduce the paper consumption of my clients while streamlining their business processes. BPR is a natural consequence of translating existing business workflows to an electronic format. Client relationships and expectation management is where the real skill came in, and why I was always used as a front-line consultant, expanding the market for others to follow and grow.NovaManage ran on an Oracle back-end, so I was doing my own Oracle systems administration, installing and configuring major UNIX OS's while tweaking Oracle instances, and integrating disparate systems to work together. Clients included Thai Oil (Thailand), GE PPSD (NY), SmithKline Beecham (PR), Genentech (CA), and Applied Komatsu Technologies (CA).

Spent 8 memorable months implementing, customizing and training users in the use of NovaManage EDMS (Electronic Document Management System) and WMS (Workflow Management System) for PPSD, Power Plant Systems Division. Jay Hayner and Rocky Bruno were primary clients for whom I produced RAD scenarios and implemented business needs like LessonsLearned. Saved the VenDoc department (Vendor Documentation) from onerous contractual obligations by implementing a change-management workflow and folder-based Electronic Document format which enabled quick access to easy search of incomplete parts. This enabled GE to go back to Hitachi (Japan) and re-negotiate strict contractual clauses because Hitachi's own shortcomings became apparent through our newly developed (transparent) procedure. Received glowing recommendation letters from clients.

Group: General Officers Management Office (GOMO)Managed a customized Intranet that allowed for dynamic editing of otherwise static web pages. This product was called SpyderWeb, separate from the web-crawler of the same name. It was used as an Army General Officer's forum prototype, but eventually lost out to AOL's more conventional "chatroom" based product.

Worked with Dr. John Coyne to innovate his "Introduction to Technology" program, which lead incoming MBA students into technology deep-dives from many aspects. Our goal was engaging student interest, and to keep GWU a top-20 [Business] school in the category of Technology. From managing labs and teaching weekend workshops where I demonstrated results, (students left an afternoon workshop with completed web-pages, Verisign profiles, MS Office Tools/Tips/Tricks knowledge, one topic per week,) I was promoted into the teaching role for the fall semester.As one of three instructors (stand-up trainer,) I made presentations before Washington Board of Trade (BOT) executives and their allied executive teams. Engagement started while taking summer classes at the Business School, then called the Management Sciences Department. Was promoted to Adjunct Professor for the fall semester, and taught two sections of the MBA-required MBAD-221 course, "Introduction to Technology". These were once-a-week, 3-hour classes, with each covering a separate subject, complete with assignment, and sometimes with a quiz the following week. Classes (and their labs, which I co-managed) covered topics like "Business Applications of a Web-Presence", Virtual Reality, Databases, Enterprise Applications and n-tier Architecture, and 3D editing tools. I still run into my students here and there, all over the world.

Used XDB Pro, the powerful XDB 4-GL, to construct a foolproof character-based user-interface which managed memory within 640K. This was later increased 1MB, with live memory management, and hot menu-access updates based on a user's modifiable role-designation. This character-based system was fast, responsive and conflict independent despite parallel transaction processing before the term even existed. Project Manager, Kelly O’Neil, empowered us to take risks, which paid off when a re-architecture of the UI resulted in additional capabilities not even considered before. I received glowing recommendations after the 13 month project was over, from my my PM & SEMA managers (Kay Mahan & Tony Starks), leading to the coveted "Sustained Superior Performance Award for 1994". This was my first professional project, and my career couldn't have started on a higher note.

Starting early as an entrepreneur, I brought together the team and coined the name to co-found DISYS with my friends Mahfuz Ahmed & Raj Bandi. DISYS stands for Digital Intelligence Systems, a story that is told within the name. We had a vision of utilizing existing technologies to transform daily life for the better, & create products in service of this goal. This came from friendships at GMU‘s celebrated School of Information Technology & Engineering, which I graduated from with a Science degree in CS. The business had to pivot towards profit and therefore headhunting, which weren't my interests at all. I was working on exciting projects that remained mine, so I narrowed my focus. Exiting early, I learned to value timing when the company sold within 2 years, for $4MM.Dr. Peter J. Denning, Dr. Henry Hamburger & Mr Robert Forbes were among my mentors, and on better advice than my own, I left to my founding partners the vision which remains as yet unrealized. The call of academia beckoned me to the Business School at George Washington University, where I was part of the MS in Information Systems Development program in Washington, DC. That lead me to the international arena, traveling the world as an Information Management Consultant.

(XDB was a spinoff from IBM, based on DB2's system tables, and was later re-purchased and incorporated into UDB.) I received glowing recommendations from Kelly O'Neill, PM, and Michael Smith, Exec VP, for stellar performance on this project.

My first job (as a student) where I worked throughout college. Student Support was essentially crisis management, while knowing all the tools of the trade, starting with Norton Disk Doctor and all the virus cleaning programs that were out there in the nascent days of the web.Promoted to Instructional Development Office: an exciting opportunity helping instructors utilize macros & object-management to create innovative interactive experiences. Our output was hottest tech-showcases of the day, including CBT/self-paced eLearning, to further the adoption of technical skills among students who came in with fear about technology. The greatest outcome of this process was the relationships developed with students and professors, and the lasting impact on the student body.
