While pursuing my degree to become a Music and Performing Arts educator, I put myself through college as an office worker. I enjoyed those jobs, and fell in love with computers. Staying current with technology has been essential to me both in my professional and personal life. I enjoyed both the journey and the learning curve. I am confident that though my work experience in an office was a while ago, my skills are proficient and relevant. By the time I moved on from my teaching career, I required the use of two desktop computers (both Mac and PC), laptops, tablets, smartphones, doc cams, blue tooth speakers, digital recorders and keyboards. I learned to digitally edit and mix music, and to competently run a state of the art sound system for the 20+ performances my students presented each school year.My previous office duties included accounts payable/receivable, shipping/receiving, front office reception, data entry, and teletype operation. My interest in computers and elementary programming led to being put in charge of database management at a software development company. My quick and accurate typing skills put me in demand typing term papers for my college peers. Besides the requisite musical and teaching talent/skills, it turns out there's a very high level of office type work required to be a successful educator: administrative paperwork and document handling, writing/typing, document creation and publication, email correspondence, website creation and maintenance, filing, data management, digital record-keeping, customer service, goal-setting, self-evaluation, the list is extensive and varied. Computer programs and apps and the use of Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Excel were, and still are, daily tools.After teaching, I wanted something completely new. I wanted to be outdoors and to be more physically active. I love to drive, and found work with Cody Staffing in Vancouver, WA as a Shuttle Driver, contracted to Auto Warehousing Company located at Terminal 6 in North Portland. Contacts within this job put me in touch with the Head of Quality Control for Hyundai Motors America at the port, who offered me my present, full time/permanent position as a Pre Delivery Inspector focusing on their Genesis luxury vehicles.I enjoyed the experience working at the Port, but wished to return to working indoors. I just accepted a position as Administrative Office Assistant at Cascade Radon in Portland, Oregon!
