I am a barrister and arbitrator with Twenty Essex, a leading set of Chambers in London. For well over two decades, I have served as lead advocate or arbitrator in over 100 high-value international arbitrations across a range of industries involving ICSID, UNCITRAL, SIAC, ICC, LCIA, ICDR, SCC, HKIAC, various BITs, the ECT, and public international law. I have also advised States on the negotiation and drafting of investment treaties. I have particular experience in creating and managing winning global strategies in high-stakes, sensitive disputes involving geopolitical issues or major criminal allegations. My primary geographical focus is the former Soviet Union states, Eastern Europe, Africa, North and South America, the Middle East, and West and South Asia. Before I joined the Bar in 2022, I spent 20 years in international law firms across three continents, including 12 as partner, leading large teams of lawyers in dozens of international arbitration disputes worth several tens of billions of dollars in aggregate.I currently serve as lead advocate or arbitrator on several investor-State and international commercial arbitrations. I have an active pro bono practice using dispute resolution techniques to further the global rule of law, and am passionate about bringing diversity into the arbitration field. I am a Senior Fellow in International Law at SOAS University of London, where I teach international treaty law. I am also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and on the arbitrator panels of various institutions worldwide, including ICSID. I have previously served as an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown, and given visiting lectures at, among other universities, Harvard, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Pennsylvania, Columbia, Paris II, Ghana, and Moscow HSE. I hold four degrees in law - a Bachelors (LLB - London), two Masters (LLM - London, BCL - Oxford), and a Juris Doctorate (JD - Northwestern) - and am admitted as a Barrister in England.
