My journey began in software development by helping bring one of the first online classes to life. This led to a full-time role in consulting, where I thrived. Eager for more, I joined a startup in the Bay Area. Despite a fantastic team and product, the venture failed, bringing me back to Alaska and consulting, where I took on recruiting and project leadership.I discovered a passion for hiring people and finding the best role for them. However, I felt unfulfilled when their careers languished and they weren’t getting the support they needed. As our business grew, I sought greater impact and took on the role of leading HR for the firm. I thought this was my opportunity to help transform our company culture to be more people-centered. However, the resistance to change from busy managers focused on short-term needs left me disillusioned.I believe there is immense untapped potential in people, and I envisioned organizations with a management culture centered on employee development and outstanding performance. This vision led me to establish Shiftfocus, which is dedicated to developing managers and fostering strong, healthy organizational cultures. By empowering managers to hire exceptional talent, develop their teams, and create engaging environments, I aim to make a meaningful difference in the world of management.A sampling of the various positions I've held through the ups and downs of helping to build a consulting firm of 200+ employees over 7 offices: HR Director | Branch Manager | Board of Directors | Head of Recruiting | Technical Lead | Project Manager | Software Developer | Product Development | Business Development | Shareholder | Investor | Owner.
