Bart started his career in the rail industry at the Dublin based leasing company of the Dutch Railways (Nederlandse Spoorwegen) NS Financial Services Company and spent over 7 years working there in different roles, most recently as head of business development. In this role he was initially heading up a team of contract and business development managers, who managed various rolling stock manufacturing contracts with various European manufacturers and were involved in expanding the leasing companies lease portfolio. After the Dutch Railways decided to close NS Financial Services Company, Bart was responsible for setting up and managing a sales process of an SPV lessor. The SPV lessor had a fleet of 54 Alstom DMU’s on lease with a large European operator in Germany. This process resulted in a successful sale of the lessor SPV to a European infrastructure fund in April 2019. As part of the closing process he was at the same time involved in the sales process of a fleet of Alstom DMU’s to their Dutch lessee. In 2018 Bart took part in the successful sale and lease back of a fleet of locomotives of NS Reizigers, leading the negotiations on the lease agreement on behalf of the seller. He was further responsible on managing the closing process on the side of NS Reizigers. Prior to becoming head of business development, Bart initiated the European expansion of NS Financial Services Company’s leasing portfolio in Europe. In this role he gained experience in setting up tax efficient rail finance structures and financial modelling. This eventually led to the set-up of an Irish based SPV lessor in 2016. Bart headed the negotiations with the lessee and the manufacturer on the lease and purchase agreement and led the negotiations with the financing banks. During the production and delivery of the DMU’s Bart acted as project manager on behalf of the SPV.At the start of his career Bart worked as contract manager. In this role he managed existing lease and purchase agreements with various lessees in The Netherlands and European manufacturers. He was further active in the re-marketing of off lease rolling stock, concluding several successful sales transactions with various European buyers.Bart has a bachelor’s degree in Law and Business Studies (minor) and a master’s degree in Business Law from Leiden University (NL). He speaks fluent Dutch and English and basic German. Next to his career in rail finance Bart has been active in the Dutch Army Reserve for nearly 10 years and is currently serving in the rank of sergeant.
