SOA, Ruby and NodeJS: One of the first engineers and helped setup a Ruby on Rails service oriented architecture with NodeJS API gateways. Led the initial design and testing of the systems.Continuous Integration and Deployment: Later, I built our Continuous Integration and Deployment pipelines using Packer, Ansible and Buildkite. The strategy was to work closely with consumers of the tool and lean start-up prototypes to make sure the product fit our engineering team's needs well before further investment.Achieved near continuous deployment on nearly every project, with on average double digit deploys per day around 10 minutes per.Infrastructure, AWS and Terraform: Worked on a small team (~4 members) managing AWS infrastructure with Terraform.

I helped lead a re-write of our data import ETL jobs to prove correctness and increase performance.I introduced development best-practices as an operations and infrastructure engineer by introducing ChefSpec, Test Kitchen and ServerSpec for automated testing, along with Berkshelf and FoodCritic to our Chef repositories.I also led the rebuild our snowflake client VM and virtual tunnels using Packer and custom Debian base images, and provisioned those images with Ansible, and tested with ServerSpec. The server was rolled out in a blue-green fashion.

I have written many large systems and have experience in a number of distributed systems and SOAs.I architected a rich JavaScript client receiving data from a .NET MVC JSON API for a major healthcare company using Node, Backbone, and Coffeescript. Tested fully with Jasmine and Testem. I also have experience in a number of other client-side technologies like AngularJS, ReactJS, and Mocha. On the same project, I have worked on a number of features in C# and .NET MVC.I worked on a distributed Rails architecture for a major babysitting site, and designed the messaging queue component using RabbitMQ. I also worked in MongoDB, ElasticSearch and a number of Git/Release strategies.I also have worked on a number of smaller projects with strict budgets and timelines in the healthcare and recruitment industries.I am also experienced in training and mentoring younger developers. I have mentored, or am currently mentoring, 3 residents through 8th Light's residency program, and have been influential in regularly refining the approach 8th Light takes towards developing talent. On teams, I am a natural leader who is able to direct teams technically and interpersonally to achieve great results.

I worked 8 months in 8th Light's intense resident apprenticeship program. My residency focused primarily on foundational design around SOLID and Package Principles, OO design patterns, test driven development and multiple programming languages like Ruby, Java, Clojure and JavaScript.I received experience in a number of data stores such as Redis, Postgresql and MySQL, and web frameworks like Rails, Backbone and Joodo. HTML/CSS, JQuery, Heroku, Rspec and Cucumber were also technologies commonly used.While helping build 8th Light's internal accounting software and project management software with teams of other residents, I was able to learn effective pair programming and extreme programming practices, while coordinating directly with stakeholders. Later in my residency, I worked with the CEO of a major survey company to help maintain a large Ruby on Rails application with agile and extreme programming practices.
