His professional career has included numerous executive roles with governmental agencies, particularly in the legislative and executive branches. He served for three years as Director of the Kentucky Legislative Research Commission, providing leadership to the Kentucky Legislature's 400 permanent staff and overseeing a budget of $70.4 million. From 2010-2015, he served as Secretary of the Senate for Nevada, overseeing 90 session staff and a $21.5 million budget. He was recognized with the Ford Democracy Award in 2013, presented to him by Secretary of State Ross Miller. Two years later, he was also honored with the Liberty Bell Award by the Clark County Law Foundation, and with the Kevin B. Harrington Award for Excellence in Democracy Education by the National Conference of State Legislatures. He is a 2016 graduate of Leadership Kentucky and was elected by his peers to serve on that organization's Board of Directors. He currently serves on the Board of the Kentucky YMCA Youth Association and advocates for civic education programs in schools. He also serves on the Board of Advisors for Polco, a company that delivers technology-driven citizen engagement solutions for local governments.A graduate of McQueen High School in Reno, Nevada, he earned his B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of Redlands, with a double major in political science and history. He earned his M.G.A. (Master of Governmental Administration) at the Fels Center of Government at the University of Pennsylvania. He lives in Lexington.
