I am a graduate student at Florida International University with dreams of eventually pursuing a doctorate in clinical psychology in the future. I have a strong passion for understanding human cognitions and behaviors, and I want to use this knowledge to help people overcome obstacles in their mental health so they can succeed in reaching their goals. While completing my bachelor’s degree at FIU, I have expanded my understanding of psychopathological disorders and treatments, the development of the mind, and the process of conducting research and analyzing data. It was during this time that I worked as a volunteer research assistant at FIU’s Research on Adolescent and Child Health (ReACH) Lab, from which I obtained experience in using research software like ASEBA and conducting literature searches, and from which I also had the opportunity to work on a research project. After graduating, I took a break from school and worked as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) with Acorn Health, allowing me the opportunity to work with and treat children and adolescents who were previously diagnosed with Autism. As an RBT, I implemented treatment plans into ABA therapy sessions which focused on the clients' skill acquisition and the reduction of problem behaviors. I also collected behavioral data during each session to monitor progress and treatment outcomes. I am now enrolled as a Master's student in the Professional Counseling Psychology graduate program at FIU, as I work towards becoming a Licensed Mental Health Counselor before I eventually pursue my doctorate degree.As someone who aspires to get a doctorate in clinical psychology, my long-term goal is to become a strong contributor in psychological research as well as an expert mental health clinician.
