I am Bérince Hounsouvo. I hold a master's degree in forestry and am currently doing a PhD in forest biology and soil sciences, at the department of wood and forest sciences of the Université Laval. My research focuses on the selection of trees for the restoration of highly disturbed areas based on the study of tree species response to their biophysical environmental conditions. As a junior forest biologist and soil scientist, I'm deeply interested in studying the response of tree root traits to soil biophysical conditions, and how genetic variation meditates these traits at intra and interspecific level. My work is interdisciplinary, at the interface of ecology, plant physiology and soil science, and combines mesocosm experiments, root growth monitoring and analysis and repeatability analysis.
