As an education assistant, I travel to schools within Wythe County educating grades K-12 on topics related to Environmental Biology, the sciences, and local history. I create lesson plans and research information pertinent to my programs and age groups. My goal is to create fun hands-on activities and experiments to aid in the students' education. I also assist in the sampling and species cataloging of the freshwater stream located in the 1800's Homestead property as a part of the stream restoration project.

My job is to conduct Ecophysiological research on the various habitats within the 47 acre property and compile the information to be used for interactive and educational purposes on the Mead Botanical Garden Inc. website. I conduct field observations and maintain a detailed field notebook. I focus the information I gather to relevant habitats and organisms and discuss their ecological significance. I work closely with members of the Mead Botanical Garden Board of Trustees who are experts and professionals in various aspects of the garden.

I maintain and care for approximately 300 zebrafish that are used in model organism research at Rollins College. I hatch brine shrimp daily to feed the zebrafish, maintain water chemistry and parameters of each of the housing systems, and prepare the chemical buffers for water treatment in the lab.
