Chief executive at the national trade association representing the 1,100 location network of small business development centers. Leading this national trade association I represent state and university based small business assistance providers. As CEO I develop and implement a 2 million dollar annual budget, manage the government relations program, and direct a six person staff. Every year we host a professional development conference for 1,700 participants, exhibitors and sponsors. Our sponsors include leading corporations like Intuit, Google and Microsoft.As CEO I act as the voice and lead representative of membership before Congress, SBA, and the Executive Branch. Every Spring we hold a legislative fly-in and Spring Meeting to advocate for small business and our delivery of small business assistance. We have been successful in developing an excellent relationship with both the Authorizing and Appropriating Committees in the House and Senate. In addition, we are now active with the Western Governors Association, working to provide a small business perspective to their public policy discussions. I'm also proud to serve on the Board of Directors of the Small Business Legislative Council an organization representing over 60 small business trade associations dedicated to advocacy for pro-small business policies in Congress. On the international front I have been working with the US Department of State and USAID to assist in the growth of the Small Business Network of the Americas, an effort to expand the SBDC model throughout the Americas. With the support of my members we have helped our partners build networks in Honduras, Panama, Colombia, Belize, El Salvador and, most recently, Chile and Paraguay. In addition to Latin America, I have also been pleased to develop a relationship with the Korean International Trade Association (KITA) and sign a Memorandum of Understanding with them, and more recently an MOU with the Qatar Development Bank this past September.
