My long term career goal is to be actively involved in teaching physics as a subject and facilitating physics practicals in ways students can easily understand the subject and apply it in solving real life problemsI hold a bachelor’s degree in Physics Education (Bsc.ED) from University of Nigeria, Nsukka. I chose Physics Education because of the joy I experienced each time I successfully proffered solutions to some of the challenges encountered by the students during Physics learning and the improved grades of my students who previously struggled with passing the course.My decision to study Physics Education at graduate level is borne out of my interest to explore proven scientific methodologies that can be leveraged to efficiently prepare high school students with the skills, capabilities and mindset needed to learn physics and apply it in solving real life problems after graduation.In 2017, I joined O nebs Foundation Academy schools as a Physics teacher, however, during my first 3 months in the school, I observed that over 70% of the students struggled with having at least a C grade (50%) in physics, this also affected their chances of passing Physics as a subject in their final National Exams. However, after a year of working with students to improve their understanding and learning of physics, the school has recorded an astronomical increase in the physics grades of science students. This is evident in their 2018 – 2020 West African Examination Council And National Examination Council (WASSCE and SSCE) results where about 70% to 80% of the students scored A1 grades (Above 70%) in physics.This experience has helped me become an effective classroom teacher, and also gave me the ability to innovate with the use of instructional materials, to master my subject area and also to set high standards for the students. Also I was able to use a variety of methods and approaches to match curricular objectives and the range of pupil needs and ensure equal opportunity for all pupils. In accordance with school assignment policy I was able to set homework regularly, to consolidate and extend learning and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own learning. I am convinced that my 7 years experience will prepare me for a long term career as a physics teacher as I will develop valuable skills in teaching, research and practical lab experiments.
