Predictive ModellingFor this contract I focused on enhancing the pricing approach and techniques within AXA commercial lines through the end-to-end build and deployment of a predictive model for employer's liability (worker's compensation) insurance. Additionally, while working on this contract, I have enjoyed having a strong focus on training and development of internal members of the AXA commercial lines pricing team to support their pricing transformational journey and to ensure effective transition of the predictive models into business as usual.

Organisational ChangeAt the beginning of 2020, the Allianz Group purchased 100% of the L&G general insurance business and the remaining 50% of LV. Since then, the focus has been around merging the two organisations to continue to add scale to Allianz’s presence in the UK general insurance market;My team and I were heavily involved in system migration activity moving L&G business and rating structures across to LV systems while minimising disruption to customers and driving favourable financial outcomes to both top and bottom lines.L&G Partner PricingPrior to and during the merger, my team and I managed over £200m of household, but-to-let and accident sickness and unemployment cover sold through our large broker partners, regional broker partners, mortgage adviser partners and through our bank and building society partners;The focus of our work was around updating underlying risk models and retail level adjustments implemented across various internal and partner hosted systems;Additionally, my team in collaboration with account managers, maintained a high level of engagement with our partners often working with partners to incorporate partner specific information into the rating as well as evaluating various back book transfer opportunities;

RACQ is the largest personal insurer in Queensland Australia, managing over 2.1m member policies and $800m in gross written premium across its general insurance business lines. As part of my position, I was directly accountable for the pricing performance of the RACQ general insurance lines reporting to the portfolio committee which consisted of the CEO and senior management representation from across the insurance business. Together with my team, we ensured that the portfolios were priced with a direct consideration of RACQ’s pricing strategy, sales performance, profitability and competitive positioning of in-market rates.Key achievements include:Above budget sales and premium performance for personal insurance lines for both FY17 and FY18 with FY18 Motor gross written premium exceeding budget by circa $15m on a $400m portfolio;Affecting a team restructure recognising a middle tier of leadership which was required to execute on strategic imperatives;Managing a team of 9 highly skilled analysts with a keen focus on the working environment, career development, continual improvement and striving for industry best standard;Guiding a step forward in RACQ pricing sophistication with the development of competitor price deconstruction models using industry leading Gradient Boosting Machine ("GBM") machine learning techniques rather than the more traditional Generalised Linear Modelling ("GLM") apppoach;Implementation of a set of national rates for the new Motor and Home partner affiliated multi-brand strategy.

As a senior member of the actuarial team, I working closely with other business areas, management and team members to deliver on team responsibilities while also providing thought leadership to strategic discussions. The actuarial team had a stronger focus on technical pricing and reserving than the (market) pricing team.Key achievements included:Development of retention behavioural model using industry leading GBM machine learning techniques;Development of the first RACQ Compulsory Third Party technical premium relativity model using GLM techniques;Integral resource in performing the annual short tail valuation and producing the insurance liability valuation report.
