I enjoy seeing my team's designs go from concept to reality—from the smallest details to the big picture of how everything fits together. The 3D CAD (computer-aided design) program SolidWorks is a key tool in my toolbox. I've spent over 9 years honing my skills in SolidWorks, sheet metal design, 3D modeling, and modular fabrication. I’m driven by the challenge of solving real-world problems through DFM (design for manufacturing), whether it’s simplifying complex structures or creating models that drive the manufacturing process from concept to production. I love to walk the shop floor, getting to know the shop floor operators and asking questions to understand the things that make their jobs harder. A 5-minute change in the design can save them hours of work.I’ve worked on projects that range from designing architectural metalwork and public infrastructure to developing a security fence for a sensitive government facility overseas. In each case, my focus has been on understanding the design intent and how to best meet that given the machinery, personnel and expertise available. Questions I ask include:Can it bolt together instead of weld? Can parts be combined? What's the order of assembly? What fixturing is needed? Can it be self-fixturing with tabs and slots? Can part numbers be etched or stenciled? Is adjustability built into the design? Are the gaps too big or too little? What is the shop perspective? Are there any interferences? Are there proper clearances? Are all holes aligned?Have I stepped back and looked at the big picture for a reality check?A highlight for me was implementing a New York City subway station retrofit, where our modular design approach saved significant installation time and overtime costs. As the founder of Yoder 3D Design, I helped manufacturers bring ideas to life with production-ready designs. Running the business has strengthened my entrepreneurial and management skills as I led projects from concept to production, requiring adaptability, persistence, and strong client relationships. It has been key in sharpening my problem-solving and leadership skills.I bring experience in SolidWorks, C#, SQL, and ERP integration. I believe that great design doesn’t just happen in isolation—it thrives in collaboration. I’m passionate about working with friendly, talented teams to create products that make a difference. If you’re looking for someone who combines technical expertise with a collaborative mindset, I’d love to connect and explore how we can build something great together.

Design EngineerMiller Metal Fabrication, Inc. Aug 2015 - Apr 2021Bridgeville, Delaware, United StatesContributed to high-profile architectural and structural projects, shop-ready manufacturing and installation solutions for end clients like Columbia Business School and the New York City Transit Authority.Columbia Business School (Henry R. Kravitz Hall): Converted 3D Revit shop drawings of complex architectural metal stair walls for Columbia Business School's Henry R. Kravitz Hall into manufacturable 3D sheet metal models using SolidWorks. Resolved issues with initial production by obtaining the original 3D architectural model, then detailed bends and seams for laser and press brake manufacturing. The panels are now successfully installed.NYC Subway Station Retrofit: Redesigned wall structures for four subway stations, creating modular sections from bent plate. Implemented CNC laser-cut mounting holes and part numbers for streamlined installation, significantly reducing field errors and overtime costs. High-Security Facility Fence: Modeled and project managed for a 1,000 foot security fence for a sensitive government facility overseas, accommodating precise field measurements. Included every manufacturing detail down to nuts, bolts, latches, and locks, and designed the layout for shipping container arrangements to ensure efficient transport and installation.NYC Transit Authority Canopy: Developed a detailed 3D model for a street-level canopy, incorporating manufacturing details such as glass, electrical systems, and structural I-beams. Enabled off-site pre-assembly for efficient crane installation.
