I was the lead engineer working on completely revitalizing and reimagining the technology responsible for $250M/year of Red Ventures' revenue. As tech lead on the project, I worked with stakeholders from throughout RV to understand and challenge existing assumptions and technology to make sure we were solving the right problems in the right way. As a result, we were able to significantly simplify the phone ecosystem and we saw a consistent 5-10% increase in KPIs identified by business teams over the previous system, reduce the number and impact of outages, and reduce the amount of tech and engineers needed to maintain the system. Transforming how teachers create and grade assignments, Omninox is a startup on the forefront of bringing technology to the classroom.As Lead Software Engineer at Omninox, I wore many hats. I spearheaded several projects ranging from simple to complex with a team of software engineers. Many of these projects were designed directly by me using Object-Oriented Design and best practices to address flexibility, extensibility, and scalability concerns.I was also responsible for planning and prioritizing the product backlog for the tech team. How many students get to work with an interdisciplinary team of engineers and business majors to develop a real world project for a major company?Probably not many. IPPD is a unique program not found at many universities. IPPD’s goal is to introduce students to working in a team made up of experts from various engineering disciplines with an interesting twist. The team works on a real life project that may be used by the company sponsoring the team. The company provides a budget, requirements, and a liaison and the team provides a product that meets the requirements laid out by the company within budget.As part of IPPD, I led an interdisciplinary team of software and electrical engineers and a business major to develop a feasible system that could be placed on million dollar mobile drill rigs for diagnostic purposes. The team faced many challenges, but in the end we were able to develop the desired prototype within budget.As a software engineer, headed the design and development of the on-board embedded system that was used to process, store, and retrieve data from the CAN bus on the mobile drill rigs. This system used multithreading to process and store buffered data as it was received to minimize the number of missed messages and increase the accuracy of the system.• Led interdisciplinary team to design and develop a diagnostic system that could be placed on mobile drill rigs valued over at $1 million• Evaluated and recommended best tools and products for project based on budget and system requirements• Designed and implemented an embedded system to parse and store data from the CAN bus of a mobile drill rig for later retrieval and analysis by a mobile device• Demonstrated finished product to executives from headquarters

Have you ever inspired somebody enough that they immortalized your attitude?Ann Christiano, the director of frank and my supervisor, was always enthusiastic about using new technology within the organization. Even when I was not familiar with the technology or the appropriate approach to a problem, I refused to admit defeat. Instead, I showed my willingness to learn and even spearheaded these projects. Often times Ann would notice when I was confronted with such a problem that I would tell her that I did not know the answer “yet.” Inspired, Ann had the word carved into 2 stones: one she kept and the other she gave to me.My time at frank epitomizes my flexibility and enthusiasm to learn new technologies and languages. My earliest projects at frank used the tried and true PHP and MySQL backend and jQuery on the frontend to implement a simple first envisioning of the recruiter system. The next version used the relatively new MEAN stack to add a whole new set of features to the recruiter system.
