Dr. Ryan S. Saxe has proudly served as Superintendent of Cabell County Schools since July 1, 2017. In this role, he leads one of the state's largest districts, overseeing more than 2,000 employees and approximately 12,000 students across 26 schools.Under his leadership, Cabell County Schools has earned statewide recognition as a trailblazer in education innovation, school finance, and leadership development. Dr. Saxe's impactful leadership was pivotal in achieving several significant milestones for the district, including the successful passage of an excess levy generating $24.1 million annually and the historic approval of an $87.5 million bond issue for school construction and renovation.Thanks to the voter-approved bonds, the district's competitive state grants for new and renovated schools, and the strong fiscal management of school district funding, Cabell County Schools has recently completed or is currently constructing over $140 million worth of facility improvements. These enhancements are centered around creating safer schools and learning spaces that embody high-quality 21st-century instructional environments.Beyond financial accomplishments, Dr. Saxe is deeply committed to enhancing the educational experience of Cabell County Schools students. This commitment is exemplified through initiatives such as providing cutting-edge technology with a 1:1 device ratio, assigning a dedicated school counselor to every building, hiring twelve social workers to address students' unique needs, and employing a district clinical psychologist.Moreover, Dr. Saxe has championed the physical well-being of students by allocating substantial district funding to participate in the USDA's Community Eligibility Provision. Since 2017, this program has ensured that all Cabell County children receive free daily meals.One noteworthy addition to Dr. Saxe's distinguished portfolio is his appointment by Governor Jim Justice to the West Virginia Council for Educational Opportunity for Military Children Board. This appointment reflects his dedication to addressing the unique challenges faced by children of active-duty military service members when relocating to a new state and school system. Before becoming Superintendent, Dr. Saxe held leadership roles in Lincoln County Schools, the West Virginia Department of Education, and the School District of Manatee County, Florida. He also actively participates in various organizations, including his role as President of the West Virginia School Superintendents Association for 2023-2024, among other notable positions.
