Student Technician

Bryan, Tx, Us

• Performed and set up experiments using advanced laser diagnostics for combustion and fluid dynamics research; individually as well as collaboratively with undergraduate and graduate students• Designed and collaborated with industry professionals to build novel burner facility for advanced fuels research• Experienced in ultrafast lasers, laser spectroscopy, scientific imaging equipment, timing generators and data acquisition hardware for combustion and propulsion applications• Streamlined analytical and data processing tasks by developing automated, user-friendly programs using MATLAB and ExcelPublications:Yejun Wang, Cade Capps, and Waruna D. Kulatilaka, "Femtosecond two-photon laser-induced fluorescence of krypton for high-speed flow imaging," Opt. Lett. 42, 711-714 (2017)During my work at the research lab, I collaborated with graduate students, research professors and industry professionals, streamlined data acquisition systems and created robust analytical programs to decrease the turnaround time for analyzing data. I was then tasked with my very own project, involving the building and systems integration of a combustion burner to simulate gas turbine injectors for combustion analysis of premixed flames. I enjoyed having zero experience coming into the position as I had to learn combustion science, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer. I enjoyed working with people from a variety of different skill sets, from graduate students, French physicists, and fuel injection companies in order to select the right components for the system. I also enjoyed the freedom to be creative and came up with innovative solutions to cut costs and optimize performance such as utilizing a syringe pump, which is normally used for biomedical applications, as the constant flow rate fuel pump. The burner was a complete success and is still being utilized today for research by the DOE and resulted in my first publication.
