Growing up, running my own business was ultimately a goal that I wanted to achieve. I did not know how or when, but it was always a thought that was lurking in the background. When starting my first year of university, I thought I would follow the path of finishing my degree in civil engineering and then subsequently pursuing an MBA. Although this path would not be horrible, it always occurred to me that I wanted something more. After completing my first year I had the opportunity to paint with the local Student Works franchise in Fredericton. I really enjoyed the culture and experience of working with like-minded students who all had a goal in mind. In particular, I was very interested in the role of owner/operator who ran the business in Fredericton. Through talking with the owner/operator I learned about the experience of being a first-time business owner. I knew that this was the opportunity that I was waiting for. In the years to follow, I became a high-level manager in the owner/operator's business and then became my own owner/operator. I conducted marketing, sales, recruiting, and successfully produced over 140+ painting projects. To date, I have secured $370,000 in sales and managed the production of $580,000+ in projects while employing 20+ students.
