Jack of all trades, builder of things.I studied mechanical engineering at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. There, I also performed research in machining, additive manufacturing, and composites. I was additionally involved with many clubs on campus.For research, I prepared coir composite samples using wet laying and hand cutting, then tested samples using Thermo-Gravimetric Analysis and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy. I also did extensive testing that involved cutting PLA and ABS additive samples on CNC 3-axis and 5-axis mills to determine viability of printing, cutting, and wind tunnel testing aerospace parts in regards to cost, time, and quality compared to computer analysis.While I was at UTK, I was a major leader within my community. I made and ran my own club based around hiding and finding rubber ducks around campus, and we did many cool events from campus-wide scavenger hunts to finding a person instead of a duck. If someone didn't know me, they knew my club for all the crazy things it did.I was also the vice president of the Amateur Radio Club and helped out with projects involving radio communications, ballooning and outreach. We would take part in an event each semester to try and contact as many people as possible over amateur radio, and were largely successful until the university took away our good radio room.Additionally I served as the radio communications and tracking officer, as well as one of the payload officers for the Rocket Top Competitive Rocketry Club. Each year we would build one large rocket to accomplish the task set by the Argonia Cup Rocketry Competition, and then compete by launching said rocket in Argonia, Kansas. Even when a rocket failed, the rocket and payload were never lost due to my radio trackers.Finally, for my senior design capstone project, I led a team that worked alongside another team to build a device that unrolled a stock roll of plastic, removed a protective layer from the stock, and then rerolled the resulting plastics onto two separate rolls. My team was tasked with making the control system for the device. This involved coding the motors, touch screen Graphical User Interface, and motor controller, as well as making an enclosure to house the electronics. I also served as the machinist for the group and cut the required holes into the steel enclosure myself using a CNC machine and hand tools for deburring and finishing touches. The control system worked perfectly, and it even had an E-stop for safety.
