I'm currently a Junior at the University of Minnesota Duluth. On my way to double major in Financial Planning and Consumer Insights and Analytics. This unique double major allows me to prepare myself for careers in financial services as well as insights into consumer behavior. My financial planning component allows me to focus on principles and practices of financial management such as budgeting, analyzing risk management, investing, and retirement planning. Some coursework examples to back this are financial plan development, employee benefit and retirement planning, estate planning, individual income taxation, and many more. On the other side my consumer insights and analytics major grants me the ability to understand consumers' behavior and preferences that follow that. In more detail, I learned how to collect, analyze, and interpret data via surveys, social media, and other customer transactions that lead to a group of data. Some skills gained through this major are data visualization, predictive modeling, and market segmentation. Some coursework examples to back this are an introduction to CIA, consumer behavior, fundamental consumer analytic techniques, data visualization, advanced consumer analytics, and many more. Throughout my work here at UMD I've been able to be placed on the dean's list for three consecutive semesters (freshmen fall/spring) (sophomore fall/N.A.) (Junior N/A) (Senior N/A) which is a pretty huge accomplishment. I am also an active participant in the finance club and entrepreneurship club here on campus which allows me to develop further insight for the fields of study. Outside of being a student, I have maintained a job at Costco Wholesale where I average 18 hours a week. Juggling all these factors has enabled me to manage my time efficiently, work under stress, make new relationships/connections, and find time for self-improvement.
