About Carlos A. Espinosa

As founder-director of Dos Mares (www.dosmares.org) I am supporting the conservation of marine protected areas in Central America. As Founder-Director of Cool Rivers Forever (www.coolriversforever.org), I am supporting the conservation of the Swannanoa River watershed in North Carolina. I work for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA - Human Alliance Program). My previous experience is related with protected areas planning and management and environmental assessment in Mexico, Central America, Puerto Rico and United States. My graduate work focused in fish community ecology in the South Gulf of Mexico, identifying seasonal abundance and biodiversity patterns between the estuary and the ocean. My biggest motivation is to find the way in which the conservation of the environment can be carried out with business vision. US-OPM's security cleared.I possess large experience and a progressively increasing project management and consulting responsibilities as conservationist/environmentalist working with scientific, engineering and business sectors, conservation community, stakeholders, local authorities, indigenous people and funding. Protected areas planning and management, watershed and coastal conservation, forest, soil and biodiversity conservation are part of my skills. I am familiarized with proposal writing as well as with business development processes, marketing and social media platforms. Fluent in Spanish language.

Dos Mares initiative argue that most of Central American society does not assign value to marine protected areas (MPAs) since they fail to clearly perceive their services in the face of the rush to prosper in a degraded socioeconomic environment where too often the alternative is to fight to survive amid misery, corruption and crime. These circumstances favor the deceleration of the economic income of protected areas and the stagnation of their management programs, at the same time that the advance of populations weakens their borders and people struggle to survive.Dos Mares also states that MPAs in Central America will acquire VALUE in the consciousness of citizens as the protected area provides them with a greater variety of recreational and educational possibilities as well as job opportunities, ideas, technologies and tools that can improve their socioeconomic status. As a VISION, Dos Mares focuses on creating VALUE in marine protected areas that provide a greater variety of options for socio-economic and sustained progress to the surrounding populations as job opportunities, recreation and leisure, ideas, technologies and tools. The MISSION of Dos Mares is to create VALUE catalyzing scientists and students from different countries to execute a series of scientific, educational and conservation programs in the Central America's MPAs.For the period 2022 - 2032, Dos Mares plans to incorporate motivated people to form an Ad Honorem Seed Group through which it is possible to convert the vision and mission of Dos Mares into a decentralized, legally established organization with financial backing. We are grateful in advance for the interest of those who decide to support Dos Mares development as an organization that positively impacts the conservation of the Central American seas as well as improving the economic sustainability of the region and the well-being of its inhabitants during this new decade 2022 - 2032.Read more: www.dosmares.org
