The Gambier Island Conservancy was founded in 1995 in response to growing development pressures across the island that were threatening the integrity of its forests, lakes, creeks and shorelines. In the years since its inception, the Conservancy has and continues to play an active and pivotal role in the preservation, conservation and restoration of the Island’s unique natural endowments.

I developed Canadas first building code to require electric heating (primarily with heat pumps and electrically heated domestic hot water. Presently I am working to implement the renewable heating and hot water requirements (in building code) that I developed for new Part 9 residential construction. I have started development of policy for existing 1&2 family homes to respond to the climate emergency, lowering greenhouse gas footprints through regulation and retrofit. I am in the early research phase on embodied carbon in low rise residential construction. I support civic projects in deep energy and operating carbon reductions by achieving Passive House Certification.

I spend one third of my time helping 100% renewable (Passive House, Living Building Challenge, CHBA Net Zero) projects happen, one third making nation leading green building policy, and one third of my time on enforcement, ensuring policy low carbon promises are kept. The City of Vancouver is aiming to run only on renewable energy while remaining economically strong and diverse. New buildings will achieve this goal before 2030.

Passive House Canada is a non-profit organisation that works to provide Canadians with the knowledge, tools, networks and confidence to design and construct buildings to meet the Passive House Standard.I was elected for a 3 year term but stepped down after just over a year to prevent a conflict of interest for my employer.

I help the Home Sweet Home Competition to judge entries from bright students building green home projects.

I ran LEED Canada for Homes, the national certification program for single family homes and multifamily buildings up to 3 stories. As of April 2014 the program had over 1600 homes certified and has over 5000 homes registered and was growing rapidly.

Worked with a technical team and program team of volunteers to launch LEED Canada for Homes nationally.

Commercial Drive, Vancouver, Bc

Over two elected terms I worked on the EEFC board to bring the organization towards a revenue positive position. I advised on building operations and on future expansion.

Managed construction of the of the Mountain Equipment Co-op Victoria store, the original North Vancouver store and participated in a number of large renovations along with the Surrey distribution centre.

I assisted the store planner with new stores and oversaw the maintenance of the national chain of stores.

Manage the day to day operations of a small residential multi-family building while in university.
