Since April 2022 I have been working for the Sakae Town Board of Education in Chiba Prefecture, Japan as an Assistant Language teacher to two elementary schools. This is a fantastic role that I am well suited to - finding new ways to speak, present and keep up to six classes of forty students per day engaged with learning English. I am proficient in Japanese at a conversational level, working towards the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (日本語能力試験) N2 qualification, having taken the N3 exam in December 2022. I am comfortable in work environments using only Japanese and I succeed in intercultural communication to fit into any place of work.I began studying Japanese at the University of Leeds from where I graduated in 2021 with a degree in Liberal Arts. For my major, I enjoyed working with and learning from the fantastic Theatre and Performance department staff. During my time at Leeds I was able to attend Waseda University's School of International Liberal Studies for an exchange year in Tokyo. Throughout my exchange I worked as an English language tutor.Upon returning from Tokyo, I combined the experience I had developed there with some main areas of interest in my degree to complete a dissertation research project on comparing the uncanny similarities between Western Japanese and Northern English styles of two-person stand-up comedy.Key past work experience includes bookselling at a number of bookshops in Yorkshire, through which I was able to expand my book brand and publishing industry knowlege alongside a passion for new literature. My role at Waterstones required retail commercialisation skills at their large Leeds store, whilst working for Reading Roots, an small independent bookshop in Wetherby, was a role highly immersed in the local community.I have worked in the leisure and catering industries from a young age giving me the base upon which my strong work ethic was formed.
