Profile bio

About Cailan Cumming

Welcome! I am an international law professional currently managing peace negotiation, post-conflict constitution-drafting, and post-conflict reconstruction programs in various conflict and post-conflict states. My favorite part about my work is equipping parties to conflict and civil society groups with the knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to peace negotiations and political dialogue, build consensus on key transitional issues, and successfully defend their needs and interests during peace and accountability processes. I particularly enjoy working on institutional reform and good governance through policy and legislation as well as my work in international negotiations. My academic and professional background in Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East, and East Africa makes me highly adept in analyzing global and regional challenges, working with multinational stakeholders, and operating in unfamiliar and unstructured environments. My past roles have supported programs in human rights, environmental and disaster management, humanitarian operations, education, and community development. Outside of my current work in peacebuilding, I am interested in gaining knowledge in law and policy as it relates to environmental rights, land issues, bilateral/multilateral dispute settlement, trade negotiations, regional integration, and Central Asia. When not engaged in professional projects I enjoy high-altitude climbing and developing work in ecocriticism. If you're interested in my professional work or you're in the Santiago area, I'd love to connect with you!
