Primary TeacherDepartment Of Education Northern Territory Jan 2021 - Dec 2021Arnhem LandThe experience of teaching in a small school in Arnhem Land was rewarding and challenging, and I will always cherish it. Due to the size of the school, my role was to teach students from pre-primary (reception) through to Year 6 (grade 5) in one classroom. All students were EALD students with a limited grasp of the English Language. This role required flexible thinking, extremely high levels of differentiation and strong classroom management skills. During my time at the school, I also acted as Assistant Principal and took on leadership roles within the school. -
Pyp TeacherBishop Mackenzie International School Aug 2016 - Jan 2021Lilongwe, Central Region, Malawi, MalawiAs an IB educator, I am committed to developing inquiring, knowledgeable and caring students and to fostering a learning environment that fosters intercultural understanding, respect, and critical thinking. My goal was to provide students with authentic, inquiry-based learning opportunities. To help students gain confidence and feel successful, I committed to providing them with unique and differentiated learning experiences. My teaching philosophy is life-long learning and I strive to create a learning environment that is engaging, safe, and inspiring for all students. -
Primary TeacherDepartment Of Education Northern Territory Mar 2015 - Jun 2016East Arnhem, Northern Territory, AustraliaIn my role, I taught a multiyear level 4/5 class. The students I taught were Indigenous Australians, and English was their third or fourth language. Therefore, whilst adhering to the Australian National Curriculum, I also adapted content to suit EALD students of differing abilities. The majority of students in the class struggled to correctly write numbers, letters, and words, while some could write simple sentences. This created a challenging, yet extremely rewarding teaching environment. I created a positive learning environment by implementing many strong classroom management strategies, highly differentiated activities, high expectations and inquiry-based learning centred on their culture. The success of these strategies was reflected in the increase in attendance from an average of 30% to the majority of the class achieving 100% attendance. -
Vet Studies Trainer And AssessorBatchelor Institute Of Indigenous Tertiary Education Mar 2014 - Mar 2015East Arnhem, Northern Territory, AustraliaDuring my tenure as a trainer and assessor, I delivered a Certificate II in Creative Industries to students aged 18 and older. I was solely responsible for the development of learning material, delivery of lessons and assessment of students. As part of the program, I developed media projects to increase student engagement including film projects for local businesses and the production of a local newspaper, which was published in the Arafura Times. These projects not only increased student participation but also provided engaging activities that improved student literacy and communication skills.
