Profile bio

About Caitlin Cain

I am currently a NIH-NRSA postdoctoral fellow at the University of Michigan, developing novelanalytical and computational tools to study neurochemical dynamics. Thus far, my academic research has provided me with an excellent background in instrumental development, chromatographic theory, and advanced data analysis tools. My undergraduate research at VCU focused on the development of novel stationary phase gradients on liquid chromatography (LC) columns. This work was the first to develop these novel, highly selective stationary phases on particle-packed LC columns. As a recipient of the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, my Ph.D. work under Dr. Robert Synovec has focused on improving data analysis strategies for chromatographic instrumentation. The computational methods that I have developed aim to improve our understanding of complex chemical systems by discovering significant sample-based differences in these chromatograms. My ultimate goal is to continue studying novel developments in chemical and mathematical separation methods as a tenure-track professor.
