I received my B.A. in Environmental Studies with a focus in Conservation Biology from Middlebury College. During my undergraduate degree, I studied at several additional academic & research institutions to round out my education, including the University of Notre Dame Environmental Research Center (UNDERC-East program), SEA Semester (The Global Ocean program), Shoals Marine Lab (Underwater Research class), The Island School, and the University of Otago. Through both my education and work experiences, I have grown comfortable in both field and laboratory environments and have worked in a number of subjects and fields, including freshwater ecology, marine ecology & biology, salt marsh ecology, and plant biology. I completed my degree in the field of Biological Sciences at the George Washington University CCAS M.S. program, advised by Dr. Keryn Gedan. While in Dr. Gedan's lab, I researched facilitated marsh transition into abandoned agricultural fields due to sea level rise and salt water intrusion.I am experienced in both independent and collaborative research & data analysis. During my senior seminar at Middlebury College, I worked with a team of fellow undergraduates to analyze survey data on women landowner engagement in partnership with the Women Owning Woodlands (WOW) project and distilled the key findings into a report for our community partners. I also have experience interviewing stakeholders (volunteers, local organizations, elected government officials, etc.) on environmental issues and concerns. I am also experienced teaching in both formal and informal educational settings. Between my undergraduate and graduate degree, I served with the New Jersey Watershed Ambassadors Americorp Program, during which I surveyed both urban and rural streams for water quality assessments while also producing educational materials, visiting local schools, and organizing environmental projects in Watershed Management Area (WMA) 9 of New Jersey. During my time at GW, I worked as a Teaching Assistant in a formal lab setting, writing and presenting educational materials (as well as weekly quizzes and midterm assessments) for the introductory biology courses.I have formal academic training in both R, GIS, and remote sensing (ERDAS Imagine). Through my academic and professional work experiences, I am acclimated to working long hours in the field (all seasons of the year), in the lab, and on the computer. I am also trained in field and laboratory safety and best practices, as well as CPR, Wilderness First Aid, and AAUS Scientific Diving.
