My heart has pulled me in many different directions in a desire to do good in the world. I started my undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and Political Science and worked with different political campaigns and organizations to help people become more informed and engaged in their community. However, I found myself drawn to nature after seeing what good it did for me and others around me. I then changed my major to pursue a degree in Parks and Recreation Management with an emphasis in Outdoor Education and Leadership. Complimentary to my studies, I had the pleasure of working with several different departments at the university which elevated my leadership, organization and interpersonal communication skills. Following the completion of my undergraduate degree, I began my “heart work.” I did this by practicing emergency medicine while attaining my Emergency Medical Technician license. I also worked for a non-profit organization that provided multi-day river trips and experiential education opportunities for underserved youth. More recently, I turned to the outdoor behavioral and mental health field, working with struggling youth. My different roles and experiences have brought on their own respective challenges, but every single one left me feeling fulfilled. Recently, I have taken my desire to do good in the world on a different direction, by studying Environmental Science Research at Brunel University London. After spending over a decade working in outdoor spaces, I saw the human impacts on our environment. This inspired me to research these effects more extensively, in hope to find solutions to the problems our global community is facing. While in my studies, I am eager to learn and share my knowledge and experience with a company that also has a desire to create good.

In addition to sharing some of the same classes as others in the cohort, students benefit from mentoring and increased faculty-student interactions. Each semester, about six activities are scheduled in the residential learning communities ranging from study groups to field trips. Weekly meetings are held to keep residents updated on activities or concerns unique to the group. One-to-one meetings are scheduled bi-weekly to ensure support for the residents - academic, mental well-being, social, etc and point them in the direction of on-campus resources available to them. Field trips that I organized included high ropes course and leadership training, hiking the nearby mountain of Mt. Kendrick, camping in Coconino National Forest, with a lesson on Leave No Trace Principles, Climb night at the on campus climbing wall, and visits to the Health and Learning Center, Outdoor Adventures department.
