Research assistant to help monitor the performance of the Living Shoreline at the West Pond in the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. Duties include: Mapping in ArcGIS Online, Collecting elevation and location data using an RTK GPS system, Collecting ecological data, Data entry and QC, Assist with report preparation

I managed a field team of college students to collect ecological and site data in the field at restored wetland sites using Natural and Nature-based Features (NNBF). We used the NYSDOS Monitoring Framework protocol utilized throughout thestate to assess resiliency of shoreline restoration projects.

For the summer and fall terms, I worked on two main projects collecting, surveying and mapping ecological and vegetation data with a field team.1) In partnership with NYC Parks Natural Resources group, I survey sites to inventory plant species, soil types and utilized the Marsh Migration protocol at wetland sites2) In partnership with the Bronx River Alliance and Westchester County, I surveyed and mapped sites along the Bronx river to help prioritize restoration management.

- Works with a field team to manage and restore key ecological sites including; sensitive beach habitats in Jamaica Bay, Staten Island Parks and the Ridgewood Reservoir freshwater lake- Introduces native and pollinator plant species, removes invasive species and litter - Provides instruction and support to staff and volunteers at community events- Provides support to volunteers at community events

- Developed, designed and maintained habitat restoration projects on Newtown Creek- Built floating wetland habitat rafts using natural materials; introduced native wetland and upland plants, sugar kelp and bivalves; monitored soil/water quality; tracked progress of species growth

- Worked with mentor on year-long research project to characterize and compare sediment bacterial populations along East River sites- Collects sediment samples and measures environmental conditions, conducts testing of samples and DNA purification in lab

- Assisted with seasonal oyster reef monitoring; biodiversity and wild oyster surveying- Collected and recorded field data on oyster growth/development at citywide restoration sites- Supported staff with new volunteer training and protocols

- Provided outreach materials and services to local communities through public advocacy program- Implemented and monitored systematic organization of public bike parking service- Trains new staff, coordinates with event production staff and maintains customer bike registrations
