Starting up my own business meant creating my own business name, logo/branding and marketing. I sold my products predominantly on my Instagram page @primrose_printing and on Etsy @PrimrosePrintingShop. This gave me an in-depth understanding of what it takes to run a business and gave me the opportunity to put the skills I had learnt at university into practice.

I created regular social media posts using Canva to keep the students informed about key, subject-specific information for the Universities Engineering and Physical Sciences Employability Team. Time management was essential in order to not miss the opportunity to inform students of upcoming events and deadlines. Creating attractive and informative posts was vital for this role, whilst keeping in line with the Employability Team brand identity.

This required having a vast amount of product knowledge and understanding. I was also responsible for completing the sale at the till and maintaining a clean and tidy shop floor and stock room.As a trained shoe fitter, I spent a lot of time one on one with customers of all ages and needs. This significantly helped me to increase my communication and customer relations skills, as well as opened my eyes to the varying needs of individuals and how to adapt to meet their requirements.
