Fixed term contract as part of Masters study programme.Interviews, analysis and report writing to evaluate a multi-stakeholder 'R4D' platform established by Africa RISING in Babati District, designed to encourage collaboration between researchers and agriculture and development actors.Interviews with researchers and agricultural extension staff for project investigating the scope for 'bi-directional' communication between farmers, extension staff and researchers. Developed recommendations for improving two-way communication and information flow.

Fixed term contract as part of Masters study programme.Working in Sustainable Sanitation Initiative, conducted review of how sustainability is defined and incorporated within mainstream approaches to rural sanitation (CLTS, CATS, CHCs, SanMark, PHAST) through literature review and interviews with sector experts. To identify gaps to address in order to meet targets under Sustainable Development Goal 6: Ensure access to water and sanitation for all.Also assisted with fieldwork planning and survey design for project reviewing barriers to EcoSan uptake in Burkina Faso.

Various projects working with Dr Lynn Dicks and Professor Bill Sutherland on integrating scientific evidence in policy and management decision-making.Used expert assessment of published evidence about effectiveness of different farming practices for enhancing biodiversity to produce an evidence-supported biodiversity module for the industry-backed Cool Farm Tool. Close work and consultation with food industry actors including PepsiCo, Heineken, M&S and Unilever who are partners of the Cool Farm Tool which is designed to improve sustainability throughout global food supply chains. Worked with Waitrose to develop a tool for use by their growers and suppliers which provides evidence-based guidance on ways to enhance natural pest control through farm management. Worked closely with experts from across business, NGOs and academia.Worked with Sainsbury's and members of their Growers' Group to develop guidelines for a new biodiversity framework and on-farm wildlife management plans for Sainsbury's farmers.Co-led a project investigating potential biodiversity and ecosystem impacts of climate geo-engineering. Coordinated an international working group of ~30 leading biodiversity experts in an evidence assessment workshop. Funded by the Institute of Advanced Sustainability Studies, Potsdam.

In Biodiversity Team, carried out data and literature review and wrote analysis for projects on 1) farmland management in the Natura 2000 network and 2) the cost of achieving habitat restoration for Target 2 of the European Biodiversity Strategy. Produced a case study on a LIFE+ farmland management project in Lithuania; conducted telephone interview with the Project Manager and synthesised into a report chapter aimed at policy makers and land managers.Fixed term contract.

In Biodiversity Team, reviewed European environmental policy related to biodiversity and agriculture. Co-authored reports submitted to the European Commission and wrote policy briefing notes and a review paper, published on IEEP's Environmental Information Service website. Also arranged and conducted interviews with representatives of environmental organisations such as the RSPB and SEPA for a SCALES project assessing biodiversity monitoring in the UK.

Protected species surveys (bats, water vole, badger, great crested newts, reptiles and breeding birds) and Phase I UKHab habitat assessments. Wrote tenders, contracts and survey reports. Used MapInfo to digitise habitat maps.
