Working as part of a small team of postgraduate students, I worked mainly through emails and by telephone. My responsibilities included negotiating services and rates with publishers and graphic designers; liaising with academics regarding article submissions and providing feedback on their work; and communicating with museums and galleries to obtain copyright-free use of images.

During my second year at Durham, I became a seminar leader for Professor Andy Wood's first year module on 'Early Modern England: A Social History'​. These seminars were held fortnightly and were primary source-led, and my main role was to ensure that my students were able to develop the skills of argument, persuasion and comprehension in a supportive and engaging atmosphere.I was also expected to mark my group's essays at the end of each term. This required a high level of time management in order to ensure that each essay was marked accurately and reliably, and therefore to the standard upheld by the university.

Each shift presents its own unique challenges whilst working within a different dynamic team each week. It is exhilarating to work in such a fast-paced environment, carrying out vital stock maintenance, till work, and ensuring my customers receive engaging and positive service. As part of my customer service training, I have been accredited with the Welcome Host Qualification (2008) from East Sussex County Council.I was also asked to volunteer on the BBC's charity merchandise stall when Drusillas Zoo Park was selected as the South East's regional hosts for Children In Need, 2010. It was a fabulous evening, with exciting activities, including Pudsey Bear face painting, being held for visitors within the park to raise money for children and young people across the UK.

It was a rewarding experience working for my Student Union, as I felt I was giving something back to the community that had supported me so much during my studies. It was exhilarating to work as part of a changing and diverse team each week, carrying out vital stock control whilst providing helpful and friendly customer service.
