For students in grades 5 through 8, Caitlin created engaging high-interest lessons where students demonstrated measurable outcomes and higher-order thinking skills while seeing themselves in the music they learned about. Caitlin employed strategic methods for making grade-level content more comprehensible and enjoyable for English Language Learners, which led to a shared ownership and autonomy over learning.

Haggerty School, Cambridge, Massachusetts

Caitlin taught a Kodály-infused curriculum to students in grades K-2 using rhythmic syllables, movement, solfége, and folk songs to develop literacy and a love of music. Caitlin taught activities based on musical works provoking imagination and creativity, and introduced students to music artists from around the world. For students in grades 3-5, Caitlin led a before-school chorus program twice a week, and at the end of the school year, performed an engaging and diverse Spring Concert Program with all students.

Cambridge, Massachussets

Caitlin taught woodwind students in eight separate elementary and middle schools in the Cambridge area. Taught beginner fifth grade students who learned the foundational skills needed to progress on their instruments. She taught intermediate woodwind students in grades 6-8 which led to a seamless transition into playing concert band repertoire in a large group setting. I frequently collaborated with colleagues to plan learning objectives, rehearsals, and concert repertoire.

Caitlin implemented creative project-based units using movement, instruments, and music theory for students in K-5 which led to a desire among students to strive towards excellence, opportunities to develop positive character development, goal-setting and self-efficacy. Caitlin created, organized and led music programs for holiday concerts, assemblies, a district-wide and a city-wide annual event. Caitlin co-constructed social-emotional goals with students; developed Individual Education Plans with colleagues to ensure inclusion and student success.

Saint John, New Brunswick

Caitlin served as the Band Director of an after-school intensive instrumental music program. She taught and conducted multi-age, multi-level wind ensembles and full orchestra rehearsals in an El Sistema-inspired program for children in an underserved community. She organized and led staff meetings with teaching artists outlining the trajectory of repertoire and collaborated on ideas for lesson plans and individual behavior plans for students. As a teaching artist, she taught combined woodwind lessons, scaffolding learning for varied abilities. In this role, Caitlin cultivate a positive and healthy environment for generating shared ownership among colleagues in order to reflect this philosophy onto students.
