My name is Caitlin O'Shaughnessy and I am currently in my 3rd year of studying a Bachelor of Pharmacy part time at Griffith University Gold Coast. Since commencing my study of Pharmacy I am highly passionate and enthusiastic about the content I have been learning and am continually motivated to expand my knowledge. I began working as a student pharmacist towards the end of 2022 and believe it has expanded my knowledge in ways that are undeniable. My work and my university study directly correlate and each of these aspects of my life simultaneously help each other. While studying, I am gaining all the theoretical and in depth knowledge of human biology and chemistry, medication pharmacology and uses, diseases and health conditions, pharmacy guidelines and legal protocols for patient care and treatments, and how to handle the different ethical and moral scenarios pharmacists face. While working, I am getting to apply all this knowledge practically and use my study to help registered pharmacists dispense medications accurately and efficiently, provide therapeutic treatments where appropriate, answer medication based questions, adapt my communication styles for different patients, and also clinically communicating with other healthcare professionals like doctors to ultimately provide the most optimal outcome and patient care.
