As a child, I would create stories in my head and share them with my friends. Some were clear fiction, taking place in other worlds with people we didn't know. Others were what most people call "lies" when I made up things that happened around me and told only those I knew wouldn't discover my deceit. Either way, I told both kinds of stories much to the delight of my listeners. I told stories to see faces light up in laughter or contort in misplaced anger. I liked making people feel.Oddly enough, I discovered my place in the world by watching an anime. One of the characters was a writer. His brother would mock him, asking him to stop bothering others with his useless stories. I had heard the same as well. This was how I got the idea to write my stories down and in 9th grade, I became a writer. The next year I watched the spin-off to that anime where the main character was an assistant at the publishing house where the former main character published his works. This was how I discovered the wonderful world of publishing. Since the main character was an aspiring editor, I thought I too wanted to be an editor. I focused on this path until my Editing and Publishing class my junior year of college when I realized that the editing lifestyle wasn't really for me, but sales sure was.I love the idea of crafting the perfect pitch to bring a book alive in a meeting, the connection to bookstores, and mostly just getting books to places where readers can buy them. Since graduating and applying for jobs, I've grown more interested in Subsidiary Rights as well. For me, Subrights merges many of my interests: sales, international publishing, translated books, and licensing deals. I want to work in a creative environment with a team of people equally as passionate about putting out amazing books as I am.
