I am a recent graduate from the University of Sunderland, at which I completed a degree in Primary Education Studies. This degree has allowed me not only to build on my knowledge of working with children and the primary curriculum, but I have also written papers on the subject of primary education, allowing me a deeper understanding of educational practices. Of course not all of my knowledge is from written work as I also have hands on experiences in schools as throughout this degree I took part in school and education based placements across a range of schools and year groups, ranging from early years settings to upper KS2. To add to this, I have also spent two years working as a supply teaching assistant alongside my degree. During these placements and whilst on supply, I have worked to assist teachers on a day-to-day basis by helping with classroom preparation and organisation, behaviour management during classes, and helping children one to one where needed. In some cases I have also helped teach smaller group activities and working 1-1 with some children. Additionally, I have completed shorter placements in SEND and SEMH settings, allowing me to have a better understanding of how to work with children with learning disabilities and mental health difficulties. I have also had experience in a non-school educational setting at The Discovery Museum in Newcastle in which I worked with the education team to deliver workshops to visiting schools. This placement has allowed me to strengthen my curriculum knowledge, especially in areas such as history and science, as well as strengthening my confidence in working with children from a range of backgrounds. My degree has strengthened my knowledge of the ICT systems and applications that are commonly used in schools, such as Microsoft Office, class dojo and a range of educational applications. I am also aware of systems such as CPOMS, although I have yet to use them personally. I am familiar with the general safeguarding practices that come with working in a school, and I have followed many different policies whilst working as a supply teaching assistant.
