Her expertise is in reliable and resilient energy systems design, and her work integrates technical, market, and policy factors to understand what future energy systems might look like, and what key advances need to be met to achieve that future. She received her doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University where she focused on reliability-based renewable energy systems design and optimization. The current program is an agent-based system modeling the evacuation of Seaside, Oregon under a Cascadia Subduction Zone event tsunami. Inputs for agent decisions include mode of transportation (car, walk), speed of transportation, and lag time before evacuation. Revised code now includes the placement of vertical evacuation towers in most efficient numbers and placements, and the input for agents to either use towers or not.

The P3 project is a national competition funded by the US Environmental Protection Agency used to promote innovative engineering and research to better the life on this planet in the face of environmental degradation. The Oregon State University Team is focusing on researching and developing alternative mulch with industry partners out of flax shive that would replace plastic mulch in agriculture practice. Individually, Clark has assisted with field trials, and is responsible for generating a Life Cycle Analysis for chive mulch, plastic mulch, and the industry leading alternative mulch.

Working in Europe's first marine reserve, Clark designed, completed and presented an original biological project on organism settlement onto the brown invasive algae, Sargassum muticum. During this experience, Clark also collaborated on other projects with fellow International Research Experience for Students (IRES) Program scientists, as well as a long-term monitoring survey associated with University of Bristol. Skills used and learned include snorkeling surveys, algae and invertebrate identification, plankton tow and analysis, hydrology monitoring, and benthic sampling.
Student Challenge Awards Program Recipient
Clark was awarded a fully-funded internship to assist with biological research on global climate change in the delicate transition zone between the Arctic Tundra and the Boreal Forest in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada. Specifically responsible for taking data on water quality in the wetlands’ unique hydrological conditions (a transition from the freshwater estuaries to the marine water in the Hudson Bay) and habitat characteristics in correlation with life histories and distributions of three types of stickleback fish, the boreal chorus frog and the wood frog.
