About Caitlyn E. Clark

Caity works in the Portfolio Strategy Division of the Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED), providing analysis products to internal and external stakeholders to help drive the commercialization of technologies across OCED's portfolio and inform OCED and Department of Energy strategy. Previous to OCED, Caity was a senior researcher at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) where she led research teams, developed programmatic strategy, and was a key technical contributor to hybrid energy system, offshore wind energy, distributed grid, and green hydrogen (H2) topics. Her expertise is in reliable and resilient energy systems design, and her work integrates technical, market, and policy factors to understand what future energy systems might look like, and what key advances need to be met to achieve that future. She received her doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University where she focused on reliability-based renewable energy systems design and optimization. During her doctoral tenure, she conducted research at Aalborg University in Denmark as a Fulbright Scholar and received a minor in Risk and Uncertainty Quantification in the Marine Sciences through the National Science Foundation. In my spare time, she enjoys being outside gardening, running, biking, skiing, rafting, and fishing.

  • Oregon State University
    Post-Baccalaureate Researcher
Oregon State University Mar 2014 - Sep 2014
    Corvallis, Oregon Area
Writing and revising code in Netlogo, Clark optimized number and placement of vertical evacuation structures to reduce mortality. The current program is an agent-based system modeling the evacuation of Seaside, Oregon under a Cascadia Subduction Zone event tsunami. Inputs for agent decisions include mode of transportation (car, walk), speed of transportation, and lag time before evacuation. Revised code now includes the placement of vertical evacuation towers in most efficient numbers and placements, and the input for agents to either use towers or not.
