Business and culture have been two of my interests since a very young age. I grew up in a coal mining city in Inner Mongolia where I learned about the U.S. from TV shows and my father’s stories about his international business travels. When I was old enough to work, I landed my first job at a luxury business hotel where President Nixon stayed in 1972 when he made his famous trip to China. One of my responsibilities supporting the hotel’s GM was to prepare a monthly financial operations report – it was my introduction to accounting. When income from business clients had declined, I proposed an idea for a “Foreign Food & Wine Festival” where we invited famous chefs to feature world cuisines. This idea attracted non-business guests and drove a 20% increase in food and beverage revenues. It was great to be able to make a difference.The hotel’s GM nominated me for a Disney program in Florida where I served as a cultural representative. I set a sales record by staying focused on our guests and working with team members. While at Disney, I met a Big 4 professional and that conversation inspired me to pursue my MS in Accountancy.I'm excited about joining the accounting profession and am doing my best to prepare myself for the opportunity. I've been able to maintain a 3.6 GPA while also gaining experience working as tax -accounting intern for marquee multinationals such as Lehman and AIG. As the Newsletter Team Director for the Zicklin Women in Business club, I am able to practice my communication skills. I am currently looking for a full-time job.
