Cal started his career as a software developer after graduating from Texas Tech University with a degree in computer science. He was hired by Betenbough Homes in 2006, and was promoted to IT Manager the following year. He helped architect the company’s internal systems for 10 years and has not only designed software systems for every team at Betenbough Homes, but also played a key role in implementing most of the company’s systems and processes. In 2012, Cal became Chief Information Officer, and was additionally charged with leading the ministry team and helping develop future leaders in the company. During that time Cal became much more involved in the strategic planning and operations of the company as a whole and in March 2016 he became president of Betenbough Homes.He feels building a home for someone is very special and strives to ensure each Betenbough home is a wise investment for every single family who puts their trust in the company. What Cal loves most about working at Betenbough Homes is the people. He admires their passion and heart, and believes the people he interacts with are the most missional people who bring everything they have each day to serve others. He hopes people feel sincerely cared for, beyond their job and that they leave better than when they arrived, both professionally and personally. Cal previously served on the Broadway Church Ministry Enrichment Team for nearly five years and currently serves on the VAPOR International Ministry Board of Advisors. Cal and his wife, Davida, and their two daughters, Joey and Hattie, attend Hillside Christian Church in Lubbock.

I’m passionate about long-range target shooting, and when I started to get into this hobby, I tried to find good sources of info online … and was disappointed with what I found. The collective knowledge of the shooting community seemed to be fragmented in forums, where conversations were hard to follow and the loudest guy was always right. Facts and strong opinions are evenly mixed and hard to distinguish between. Empirical results or definitive sources can be quickly outweighed if they stand in contrast to popular belief of the majority. It was just a lot for a new shooter to sort through.So I started a website to document different aspects of precision rifles and long-range shooting as I learned, in hopes that it would make it easier on the next shooter that came along. The website has grown dramatically since that time, and has more readers than I thought would ever be interested in those niche topics.I have a data-driven approach, which is very unique in the industry. I write creative, original content and even conduct independent research. I’m very intentional in how I present information, and can convey even the most complex topics in a very organized and straight-forward manner. Cal started his career as a software developer at Smooth Fusion, a premiere software firm specializing in cutting-edge, database-driven web applications for clients like Microsoft, Best Buy, and other national marketing firms. Cal joined Smooth Fusion during his final years of study at Texas Tech and continued full-time following graduation. There he played a key role in developing a few of the most high-profile and technologically advanced web applications of the day, including one that received over 50,000 concurrent users the day it launched. The dynamic/real-time nature of the websites and massive traffic loads required his team to pioneer advanced methods of code design and server infrastructure to ensure the websites remained functional and responsive. It was at Smooth Fusion that Cal gained experience working in a team environment, developed a passion for user experience and software architecture, and within a short period gained exposure to a wide variety of coding techniques and industry best practices.
