Experience in Heavy Diesel engine rebuilding, fitting and machining, catering to the mining, agriculture, oil and gas industries. Apprentice Fitter & Machinist, 2nd year. Rotated through inspection area; examining parts, cleaning and writing final report. Report detailed all work required to bring components back to standard (if possible). Cleaning process would include removing all parts from engine blocks, if not seperate already, and replacing them on completion. This also included removing/replacing gears, minor (not structural/supporting) welding and heating. Completed training in Head department in 2.5 months (usually 6-8 month process), experience with large variety of diesel engine heads/components, reporting/finding faults and re-engineering back to specified standard. Rotated through to Camshaft department, began training with straightening, polishing, grinding and fitting cams quite rapidly. Most parts and engines that came through were heavy diesel engines, usually catering for mining, power and marine purposes. This means I became familiar with most makes and models used in the mining industry, as well as how to handle, repair and re-assemble components.
