Expanded and improved the Democratic Erosion Event Dataset (DEED) and created a sister dataset to the DEED for Autocratic Consolidation Events (ACE) by using a theoretical framework to determine what actions autocrats employ to solidify their rule. Co-authored a report in collaboration with the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and other policy partners in the Fundamental Freedoms Fund (FFF) consortium on the regional spillover effects of democratic backsliding, especially in response to significant crises. Transcribed and analyzed workshop transcripts to investigate the extent of polarization in the United States and what methods work in combatting it.

Conducted extensive research in preparation for the elections that took place in Zimbabwe on July 30, 2018. Wrote a 10-page report on the elections for Freedom House’s president. Also studied Chinese government surveillance techniques used to target the Uighur minority in Xinjiang Province and Chinese efforts to influence global media coverage.
